Competition Program

For Junior and Senior Athletes

JUNIOR COMPETITION TEAM

For athletes between the ages of 8 and 13 yrs

Our Junior Competition program introduces kids to competing in sprint kayak events in a low pressure environment. The program focuses on participation and personal achievement rather than podium results and aims to help children develop:

  • a love of training and competing
  • a solid technical foundation
  • team spirit and sportsmanship
  • a growth mindset
  • resilience & mental toughness
  • self discipline and intrinsic motivation

Depending on their age and sporting goals, kids in this program train 2-4 times per week year round in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Sessions last for 1-1.5 hours.

Crew boat training which emphasizes team work plays an important role in the summer training program on the water. In the winter months training moves to land and encompasses a wide variety of sports, along with strength training and kayak specific technique. Juniors receive instruction in English, helping develop their language skills.

The junior team regularly competes in events in Slovenia and abroad from April-November and has two training camps per year.

SENIOR COMPETITION TEAM

For athletes 14+

The Senior Competition Team caters to athletes of various levels of experience who are not yet ready to join our High Performance Team, or only wish to compete in lower level competitions.

More experienced athletes typically train 4-5 days per week year round, and join some sessions of the High Performance team. Training sessions for seniors last for 2-3 hours.

Less experienced athletes, or those who don’t want to devote as much time to training generally train 2-3 times per week and are placed in a group with athletes of a similar ability.

The senior team regularly competes in events in Slovenia and abroad from April-November.
